Hexham

Hexham is a flourishing Northumbrian market town, situated on the south banks of the River Tyne.

Winner of 'England's Favourite Market Town' in 2005, Hexham is a great hub from which to visit many of the historical attractions and leisure facilities Northumberland has to offer.

Situated in the centre of Hexham itself is the magnificent Hexham Abbey, which originated as a 7th century monastry constructed by Wilfrid. Other notable buildings include the Moot Hall, the Covered Market and the Old Gaol, one of England's first purpose built jails.
